2-day in-shed training available

With the support of the Kaiaka Wool Industry Training Trust and Wool Impact, WOMOlife offers affordable in-shed beginner crutching and beginner shearing/wool handling/ pressing courses through 2023 to early 2024.

Each course combines online learning with 2-day in-shed training.


If you can get yourself to the shed and back each day, you’ll learn skills from our awesome trainers – skills you can be confident in when you find work in the sheds.

Upcoming courses:-

Te Kuiti, King Country: Beginner crutching course for newbies to wool
No experience required. Learn crutching, wool handling fundamentals and pressing skills.

Hastings, Hawkes Bay: Beginner shearing for those who already have experience crutching. Then book your spot on our shearing, wool handling and pressing course.

Maximum 18 per course. All courses: 2 full days in-shed. No accommodation or meals provided. Tools and equipment provided for use. You must be able to get yourself to and from the shed each day. Prices include gst.

Who can apply?

BEGINNER COURSES

ALL Training:

  • Aged 16+ with a signed parental/guardian permission for all 16-18 year-olds (we’ll send you the form if this applies)
  • Anyone with their own email address and access to a device for access to the online training before coming along to the practical in-shed course
  • Anyone who can sort their own travel to and from the shed/station at the beginning and the end of the in-shed training days

How can I pay?

Payment must be made in full before you can receive access to the online and in-shed training.
All major credit cards are accepted. Payment can also be made by Afterpay (you’ll need to set up an account with them first) and via POLi for internet banking.

What’s included – all courses:

  • Access to the online content. We’ll help get you set up online before the in-shed training. You’ll get to watch a series of videos showing the techniques and skills required in-shed, and you can watch these in your own time, on your mobile or pc, as long as you have good connection. Videos are between 1 – 5 minutes long on average.
  • You’ll also have access to our Work Wise video series: Eat Wise, Money Wise. Think Wise and Move Wise
  • A Certificate of Achievement is available on completion of the in shed course.

What will I need to bring along?

We’ll send you a list in advance of the training on what you’ll need to bring, but for a beginner course you’ll need casual clothes, including long pants and covered in shoes. You’ll need to bring your own food and drink. We’ll supply handpieces, wool samples etc for demonstration and use.
